Wrinkle treatment with hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) – a substance that naturally exists in the skin and that helps the hydration and adds volume to the skin. It is usually found in the form of injectible gels that are inserted gently in and under the skin in order to instantaneously restore the skin volume, in order to smoothen and to make disappear the face wrinkles and lines and in order to redefine the lips. This is a gel of homogenous, non-granular consistency that easily penetrates the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel.
This gel also contains 0.3% Lidocaine to significantly reduce the injection pain, thus providing an invigorating experience.
HA is an ideal substance for dermal fillers because it offers a natural sensation of the skin and has a long lasting effect.
The younger you look, the better you feel. However, getting old is a process that cannot be stopped and, as the body gets older, the look and the properties of the skin change.
Age, hormones, sun exposure, smoking - they all have their part leading to wrinkle formation. The skin is more fragile and less elastic. As we get older, the quantity of hyaluronic acid (HA) in the skin – which is very important for water retention – decreases. The glands that produce sebum (sebaceous glands) become less active and the skin becomes drier. At the same time, the skin loses fat, therefore, it has less volume and it becomes less smooth, losing the young and fresh colour.
Besides all these changes, gravity acts as well by pulling the skin down and causing it to sag.
Wrinkles are the consequence of the process of aging. With age, the internal layer, called dermis, gets thinner. The elastin network (the protein which provides stretching to the skin) and the collagen fibres (the main supportive proteins of the skin), which support the superficial layers, become weaker or break, thus causing the appearance of the wrinkles . As we get older, the skin loses it elasticity, it is less able to remain hydrated, the secretion of the sebaceous glands decreases, and the skin heals with much more difficulty. All these contribute to the appearance of the wrinkles.
The wrinkles between the eyebrows (frown lines) and the wrinkles at the corners of the eyes (also called crow’s feet) are formed because of the contractions of the facial muscles. Laughter, frowning, squinting and other usual facial expressions cause the accentuation of the wrinkles. In time, these expressions associated with gravity force contribute to the appearance of the double chin and may cause the skin around the eyes to sag.
Healthy skin permanently regenerates itself. While the old collagen is being destroyed, new collagen is being formed. Scientists have noticed that smoking causes an accentuated decrease of collagen production. In its turn, this fact causes the wrinkle formation.
Effects duration may depend on age, the quantity of the injected filler, the place of injection, the quality of the skin and, generally, on the patient’s health condition and lifestyle.
However, the beneficial effects last up to one year since the application of the treatment.
What are the side effects?
After injection of hyaluronic acid, there may occur:
- swelling and bruising around the area of injection
Most side effects are mild or moderate and disappear after a few days; they include, but are not limited to:
- hardening/ swelling
- bumps / swelling
There is a risk of infection in case of any injection procedure.
Precautions before treatment
We advise you to avoid aspirin or other non-steroidal and anti-inflammatory drugs (with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effect) for a few days before having hyaluronic acid injected. It will reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding of the injected area.
In case this is your first visit, you will have to inform your doctor beforehand regarding your medical record or any current problems, as well as the allergies that you have to the administered medication.
An allergy test is not necessary unless the doctor considers it necessary. The procedure is fast and easy. The injection takes only 15-20 minutes.
Precautions after the treatment
Because the injectable gel with hyaluronic acid involves a simple, non-surgical treatment, there is a minimum recovery period. In the first 24 hours after the treatment, you must avoid:
- excessive workout
- excessive exposure to sun or heat
- alcoholic drinks
in order to reduce to the minimum the risk of temporary reddening, swelling and/or itching
No treatment can stop the process of aging; you will need rectifications if you want to maintain the effect, so ask your doctor when a new session is recommended.
